A Day In Ferndale

posted in: Adventure | 0

On the California coast just a short distance from the heart of the Redwoods is the charming Victorian town of Ferndale. The late 19th century ambience of the town has been carefully preserved and many of the original Victorian buildings have been beautifully restored, especially the businesses along main street. We went last year but were met with disappointment due to all the COVID-19 closures. This year the many interesting shops on main street in this charming little burg were open for business and we thoroughly enjoyed shop after shop hunting for treasures. Although tourism is certainly an important part of life in Ferndale, the shops we visited did not have that “touristy” feel to them. Plenty of variety and some very interesting places to visit. We really lucked out and it was a beautiful day to walk up and down main street. We even explored the back streets and to our delight found many amazing homes still true to the history of the town and painstakingly restored.

One of the images above is of a small pink child’s playhouse that’s part of a new interpretive garden along main street. If you didn’t know it was a scale model playhouse, you might not be able to pick it out of the other pictures. It’s all still under construction but looks like it will be very nice when it’s done. Take minute to scroll through the photo gallery above, some of the houses are quite beautiful.
