Washed Ashore Art Gallery

Over the July 4th weekend (2021) we spent some time in Old Town Bandon (Oregon) where they had some fun shops and galleries to browse but we found a very interesting gallery dedicated to reclaiming trash from the ocean and turning it into art. It’s a shame that people will throw trash into the ocean and think nothing of it but this innovative “recycling” program has a mission to turn a negative into a positive and I think that’s worth drawing attention to them. They have the gallery here but also to travelling exhibitions. You can find out more at Washed Ashore – Art to Save the Sea about their mission. I like the fact that they don’t have the feel of the typical Chicken Little mentality of save the planet zealot organizations out there. They’ve identified an area where people are being irresponsible and doing something positive. The artwork is fun and people have come up with some very creative ways of turning trash into art. Since they didn’t prohibit photography, I took some shots of some of the pieces I thought were fun and put them on the image slider above. I was pretty amazed at what you could do with crushed water bottle, bottle caps and even full size Clorox jugs.
